5 Different Types of AwningsWe know all about the sun in Arizona and how it beats down on every inch of land here. Those facts mean we need serious solutions for spending time outside and for our electricity bills. That’s where using various styles of awning comes in.
We can use the awnings for shade on our outdoor space, instantly dropping how hot it feels. We can also use them to prevent UV rays from entering our homes through the windows, which helps immensely with our cooling bills. An awning is a reasonable investment in a building’s future.

Open Awnings

An open awning does not have any enclosure attached to it. Instead, we see this all the pieces of the shelter at their attachment point, which subjects them to more elemental wear. An open awning is an excellent option for a starter awning since it is versatile and easy to install.

Box or “Full Cassette” Style

A box awning offers an enclosure for the awning while it is not in use. The box affixes to the wall over the desired area. When we want to use it, we simply open the box and roll the shade out. This type is fantastic for areas which experience storms and flying debris.

Side Shade Awnings

Side shade awnings are fabulous for areas that require added privacy. We have set them up around pools, patios, and decks, often in areas where the neighbors are close. These shades are typically retractable, so they are easy to put out only when they’re needed.

5 Different Types of Awnings for the Perfect Outdoor SpaceDrop Arm Style

Rather than rolling straight out, drop arm style awnings angle the awning down. This kind of shelter is useful for shading windows since the shade can cover the whole window or only a part. We often install this style to help homeowners with their cooling costs.

Retractable Awnings

Retractable awnings are the most popular among the different types of awnings. These come in two varieties, motorized and manual. The motorized version is common since it is easy to use. The awning rolls itself out or in at the touch of a button. That convenience is fantastic for friends dropping in or simply relaxing after a long day.

Meanwhile, a manual awning requires we put in some work. Each time we want some shade, we need to un-secure the canopy, get the arms in position, and roll the awning out. Then we need to roll the awning back in and re-secure it. Otherwise, our awning is at risk of damage in heavy winds or storms.
